After a week of home games, three of the Marauder teams will have their first road games of the season Monday and Tuesday. The Freshmen lead things off on Monday, with an away game at Merrimack at 4:390 at the Reeds Ferry School. Here's how every road game should work:
Dismissal time: A 2:00 dismissal means finishing sixth period and then going straight to the bus. Players must contact their 7th period teacher earlier in the day to find about homework/missed assignments. Players leaving at 2:00 on Tuesday (JV1 and Varsity to Bedford) should talk to their 7th period teachers on Monday.
Freshmen should try and change into their uniforms prior to departure, potentially during 5th or 6th period. Change after school if you must, but do it quickly. I will have the uniforms for freshmen who did not receive them Friday. I will hold my usually office hours on Monday in the gym during Activity Period.
All teams wear white on the road. This means white uniform, white shorts, white socks and even white shin pad holders. Technically, all accessories must be white.
Players may return home with their parents after an away game. They must confirm this with the coach in charge. The bus driver will inform students of the estimated return time half an hour before arrival.
On Tuesday, both Varsity and JV1 take the same bus to Bedford, leaving after 6th period. Please get to the bus as quickly as possible. The bus will return after the Varsity game at 6:00. JV players may return home with parents after their game, or stay for the Varsity game and return on the bus.
Looking forward to Wednesday, the Freshmen will have their long-awaited home opener against Memorial at 4:30 at Dresden. They may either take the practice bus at 2:45, and wait at Dresden, or go home on the 2:00 bus after school and be dropped at Dresden at 3:30.
Three players need to finish their concussions testing! On Monday, Archer Judd and Lorenzo Castelli should report to the Training Room with a Chromebook or laptop immediately after school. On Tuesday, Soren Stettenheim should report to the Training Room immediately after school.

Marauders Beat Bishop Guertin 4-1; Bedford Up Next
The Marauders accomplished a number of their goals Tuesday afternoon with a clinical 4-1 victory against Bishop Guertin. Enjoying a significant territorial edge in the first half, Hanover generated 19 shots and saw 18 of them miss, hit the post, or be saved before Henry Aspinwall's strike in the 33rd minute gave the Marauders the first half goal they craved.
Three goals by three seniors in the second half gave the Marauder snipers the fine-tuning they need before taking on Bedford. Charlie Adams scored his second goal of the season and then set up Eli Stack and Blake Palmer. Twenty-four field players got playing time. Andrew Enelow got a well-deserved start in goal.
It didn't take long for Hanover to begin a siege on the BG goal. Blake Palmer missed at close ranger after a setup from Charlie Adams. David Stoffel whistled a shot over the top. Eli Stack broke in alone and was denied after a good save. The Marauders threatened with number of shots from close range after several corner kicks. Eli Stack just missed with a close range deflection on a free kick from Adams. Adams had two shot saved/blocked before a dangerous shot attempt by Palmer was blocked. Kyle Doucette's shot from in close on a corner kick clanged off the crossbar.
Finally, with a number of fresh legs in the lineup, Hanover took the lead when Eric Ringer made a great penetrating run into the BG box before laying the ball off the Aspinwall, who finished with his usual economical aplomb. The Cardinals mustered one of their few dangerous shots with five minutes left in the half, but after 40 minutes the Marauders were in clear control with their 1-0 advantage.
It didn't take long in the second half for the Marauders to assert complete control of the match.
Right back Dylan Kotlowitz stepped deep into the attacking zone on a counter, and threaded a ball to Blake Palmer on the right wing. Palmer beat his defender to the end line and hit a hard centering pass that was slammed him by an onrushing Adams. Ten minutes later, Adams set up Eli Stack with a penetrating run on the left side. An inexplicable call gave Bishop Guertin a penalty kick and a goal with 20 minutes to play, but there was no sign of a rally, Ten minutes later, Adams worked free in the box and laid the ball to Palmer, whose short range left footer gave Hanover a 4-1 lead. Four more Marauders made their varsity debuts in the closing minutes, and each contributed to the seamless control that continued to the final whistle.
The Marauders made progress on several fronts, and now they face a stern early season test in the Bedford Bulldogs, the defending D1 Champion. They will train Sunday 2-4 after days off on Friday and Saturday.

JV1` Beats Bishop Guertin 3-2
The Marauder JV1 squad made it two wins in three days with a tense 3-2 victory over Bishop Guertin on Thursday. After conceding an early corner, Hanover got started on the front foot, with a dangerous free kick by Pierce Hamlin saved by the keeper, and the rebound shot by Jack Ross sailing over the bar. Ten minutes in, Zane Schiffman sailed a soaring shot just over the crossbar. At the other end, Palmer Okai was keeping things calm in the middle of the back four.
In the 13th and 15th minutes, Pierce Hamlin was getting great looks at goal, forcing a save by the keeper and then ripping a shot past the post. Five minutes after that, Hamlin made his presence felt with a long cross off of a set piece. Finally, five minutes past the midway point, Hanover struck twice in two minutes. A Derek Lacy corner kick was parried into a defender by the BG keeper, resulting in an Own Goal. A minute later, Oscar Miller's hard work up front created a turnover and a possession for Thomas Glass, who slid a pass to Johnny Reznek. Playing his 8 role perfectly, Reznek slipped the ball past the past with his left peg.
Hanover continued to put on the pressure. Connor Hamlin got into position to have a look, and Matias launched a 235-yard shot. In the 32nd minute Hanover got the game-winning goal on a goal of the year candidate. Oscar was dispossessed in the box but the clear to the top of the box was met by Owen Stannard, who ripped a rising shot that hit side netting for a stunner of a goal. Unfortunately, Hanover couldn't close out the half, and conceded a goal after a BG free kick was bounced around in the box before being tapped over the line.
Bishop Guertin got even closer right at the start of the second half, when a long high shot eluded CJ Wheelan at the back post. The junior keeper's response was the moment of the match. Just two minutes later, a tackle in the box resulted in a penalty kick, and it appeared that the entire three-goal led would be squandered. The Cardinal kicker hit a hard shot to the middle of the net. CJ was diving to his right, and managed to get his trailing foot on the ball and make the game-saving save. He stood tall againve minutes, making an off-balance near post save, and the then clearing the ball.
Hanover continued to press, and Jack Ross almost found Zane Schiffman at the back post on a free kick, which would have duplicated their gamer-winner at Exeter two days earlier. Oscar earned several free kicks, and the Marauders just missed a quick restart wide of the post. CJ Wheelan. had to remain alert in his end on several free kicks, and come off his line to punch clear on one of them.
Murphy Hunt and Luke Ives showed their ability to see the match off at the end. Mitch and Isak Larusson get a shout out for great planning and execution of a free kick that started a dangerous scoring opportunity.
Editor's shout out to Jack Maynes for keeping exquisite game notes. Next up for JV1s is a Tuesday road trip to Bedford.

Busy Thursday Ahead for Hanover Soccer
Off four Marauder teams have a full schedule Thursday, with three games and a special training session for the Freshmen. The JV2s open their season with a home game against Hartford at Dresden at 4:30. The team will take the regular practice bus at 3:45. The Freshmen train at the regular time of 4:00 - 5:30. Coaches Brendan Barth and Eric Jayne will run the session.
Varsity and JV`1 soccer will host Bishop Guertin of Nashua at 4:00 on the HHS turf and the HHS Grass. Both teams will be looking to move to 2-0 on this short, sweet home stand.
Thursday afternoon, the Freshmen tuned up for their Monday road trip to Merrimack with a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Marauder Varsity Girls. This was simply the best game that has been played on the Merriman-Branch turf this year. The Girls are ready to defend their State Championship beginning on Saturday, and they were fired up. The Freshmen did a great job defensively, contesting loose balls at midfield and not diving in on tackles. Once again, goalkeeper Ty Noon was a huge presence, quarterbacking the team and standing firm in the box.
After a scoreless first half, both sides stepped up the intensity, and with 20 minutes to play the Girls scored what may be the goal of the year. Ty Nolon made a diving save on a certain goal, and then made an equally stunning save on the rebound. Finally, on the third rebound, they scored, sending their bench into a frenzy.
Coach Grabill, anxious to get to the Parent Meeting, kept trying to end the match in favor of the girls, but they insisted on continuing to play. Imagine their surprise when the Freshmen surged into the Varsity end and scored two quick goals by Jack Gardner and Jack Stadheim at the death of the match. Both teams played superbly, and both have a lot to be excited about.

Marauders Sweep Home Games With Exeter
Hanover opened the soccer season on a high note at home, sweeping a pair of tight contests with perennial power Exeter. Exactly 117 students from 1200-student Exeter tried out for soccer, and the cream of that crop came to Hanover to open the season. The JV1 squad earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory on a Zane Schiffman back post post finish on a Jack Ross free kick, earned by an Oscar Miller run. Hanover started the match on the front foot, and pressure by Eric Tysinger, Isak Larusson and Pierce Hamlin nearly created a goal. Zane Schoffman nearly got a front post finish on a Derek last corner kick in the sixth minute.
Exeter had several great chances to score, and a pair of superlative saves by Jack Maynes midway through the half kept the Marauders from surrendering the lead. Hanover played composed, intelligent soccer in the second half, and made the lead stand up. As the physicality of the match increased, Hanover kept their cool as the opposition earned a pair of yellows. This was a good win for Coach Willie Johnson and the JV1s.
The Marauder Varsity faced a typicality strong Blue Hawk side, skillful, aggressive and confident With a large crowd on hand for the 6:00 tilt, the Marauders overcame a slow first half and took control of the match, never trailing en route to a 2-1 victory. Will Blinkhorn and Charlie Adams scored within a minute, and a strong defense led by Senior Captain Kyle Doucette slammed the door on Exeter.
Hanover controlled the match in the first half, but their long stretches of possession never amounted to much in the way of dangerous scoring chances. Eli Stack created a couple of good opportunities, forcing goalkeeper Dylan Firmin to make a strong save off his line that left him shaken up. Amane Matsuoka had a good-looking shot blocked following a corner kick. Charlie Adams slid a long free kick past the far post. Exeter had fewer scoring bids, but showed that they could be dangerous with a pair of shots that forced saves from goalkeeper Joey Perras.
It was clear from the outset of the second half that the Marauders had taken things up a notch. Ten minutes after the interval Charlie Adams burst into the attacking zone and slid a pass to Eli Stack on his left, Stacks's shot was saved by a charging Firmin. Five minutes later, Stack burst out of the corner in the penalty area and was hauled down by a defender with a clear path to the goal. Play continued. Both Amane Matsuoka and Blake Palmer were giving Exeter a number of challenges on the wings.
With a decided edge in play, the Marauders got a further boost with a bunch of substitutions at midfield. David Stoffel, Will Blinkhorn, Brian Brigham and Toño Correa all gave Hanover the time and space to create a number of shots. The Marauders took a 1-0 lead in the 68th minute, following a corner kick from the left corner. The rebound fell to Blinkhorn at the top of the box, and the senior midfielder struck a great ball that found the side netting inside the left post. It was a suitable reward for a great preseason. Less than a minute later, Adams showed a bit of brilliance, with a run through midfield that twice saw him tip the ball inches ahead of a lounging defender. Bursting free into the box, Adams was hauled down for a no-doubt penalty kick, and cooly converted the spot kick to double the lead.
The Marauders, who had played superb individual and team defense, did a nice job continuing the Exeter attack, although the Hawks pulled a goal back with four minutes remaining. Quinn Pjhillips made a great run to the edge of the box, and Perras came well off his line to meet him at the top of the penalty area. Joey made the save, but got an unlucky bounce as the ball rebounded 10 yards further out to midfielder Mason Casassa, who volleyed the ball 30 yards into the vacated net. Exeter never threatened after that, however, and the Marauders ran out the clock on a valuable home win.
Both teams will return to action on Thursday with 4:00 home games on the grass and the turf.
Wednesday's schedule is a full one, culminating with the 7:00 Parent/Player meeting. The JV1 and JV2 training sessions scheduled for 3:00 at Dresden are subject to the weather, with thunder storms scheduled for that time slot. Stay tuned. If rain cancels these sessions, the JV2 will still meet at the high school after school to receive uniforms for their Thursday home game.
The 4:00 Varsity training session on the turf and the 5:30 Freshmen scrimmage with the Varsity Girls on the turf are very likely to take place as scheduled. Both Varsity and Freshmen should wear white (or gold) training gear. Freshmen should meet at the turf at 5:00.
