First Day of School! Into our Regular Routine

With the start of school on Wednesday, we will move into our regular practice and game routine, which always has variations, but always follows the rhythm of the school schedule.

All three Subvarsity teams (JV1, JV2 and Freshman) have practice at Dresden after school.  It's the first day of bus service to and from Dresden, and we have our fingers crossed.  Always lots of moving parts on the first day of school.  The busses always follow the same pattern:  they are available for the practice runs to Dresden after they finish their initial after school runs.  They are scheduled to pick up the students at 2:50.  (3:50 on M-T-Th-F).  There is usually some variation in the actual pickup times.   I will be at school several days this week to make sure the busses arrive and are properly loaded.  There is one bus that will return to HHS after practice is over.  Practices last for 90 minutes.  Ideally, they will start at 3:00 (4:00 on M-T-Th-F).  All students are allowed to drive themselves to practices, and also ride with others with parental permission.  Let us know if you have any questions about transportation to and from practice.

This Wednesday, the Freshmen will train at Dresden and then take the bus back to HHS to play the Girls' Varsity on the HHS turf from 5:00 - 6:30.   Freshmen should try to wear white socks and shorts of possible.  We will provide shirts. The Varsity will practice on the turf from 6:30 - 8:00.

**Schedule Change!  On Thursday the freshmen will scrimmage a Lightning team at Dresden at 5:00.  They should take the regular practice bus after school at 3:50, and be picked up by parents (or carpools at 6:30.

On Friday, the Freshmen play at home against Manchester Memorial at Dresden.  They should take the regular practice bus at 3:50.  Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30.  It's tight, but doable.  Again, Freshmen should plan to be picked up after the game at 6:30 or so.

The JV1 and Varsity teams scrimmaged on Tuesday against Lebanon, inaugurating the Merriman-Branch Field's new turf surface.  The JV1 team won 7-0,  and the Varsity won 6-1.  Eric Ringer opened the scoring for the Varsity three minutes in to the match, stealing a ball and hitting an absolute ripper, setting the tone for the day.  Lebanon had plenty of possession in the Hanover end, and earned a number of corner kicks, which were well-defended by the Marauders.    Charlie Adams made the score 2-0 14 minutes into the match, with a nice shot from the top of the 18.  With the half winding down, Adams and Amane Matsuoka combined for the best goal of the day.  Adams broke out of the Hanover defensive end at top speed, and threaded a lead pass to Matsuoka on the left wing.  Amane returned the favor, threading the ball perfectly into Charlie's path for a one-time shot, concluding a dazzling transition.

The Marauders controlled the play in the second half, and added to the lead of a left-footed rocket from Latham Allison.  Lebanon countered with a nice goal by the estimable Logan Falzarano.  Hanover got the last word with two goals by Patrick Osborn.  The first came as the result of some nice work in the box by Adams, who led the ball to Jackson Lake Monster.  Lake slipped a nice pass to Osborn in the corner, and Pat hit a left footed shot that swept into the far side netting.  Ten minutes later, Osborn closed the scoring, running under a long crossing pass from Tucker Monson and beating the goalkeeper with a soft header on a 50-50 ball.

One more highlight to a good evening:  generous donors brought more than 100 pounds of food for the Haven Food Pantry.  That's a great start, and establishes a target for our next food drive in a week, when Hanover hosts Exeter in the season opener.  See you then!
