We will be running a series of timed footraces, with the emphasis on safety and fun. Distances over 1500 meters will be optional. Players should bring running shoes suitable for the track. No soccer shoes. No soccer balls.
Tryouts on Monday will be at the Dresden Fields on Rt. 5 in Norwich. (just south of King Arthur Flour - look for the sign on the left saying "Colton Center"). Please park in the parking lot. The small lot on the right up front is for coaches only. Do not park in the circle, or on the road the the baseball /field hockey field. Players: perhaps you will be the one whose parent, eager to get close to the action, parks in the wrong place and gets told off and ruins your life.
For the first three days, players should wear shirts that correspond with their class colors. Seniors wear black, Juniors wear white, Sophomores wear blue, and Freshmen wear yellow. It won't be a deal breaker if you wear the wrong color. We have pinnies.
When players arrive at Dresden, there are welcome to kick around. Do not kick at the goals. Never stand in the goal, particularly when it is placed on the goal mouth. Our fields receive a tremendous amount of wear, and the goal boxes go first. Kick with a partner, juggle, rondo, whatever. No shooting. Don't bring your own ball. We will have plenty of balls.
While we're at it, we will eventually shoot on the goals. Wherever you are, whenever it happens (on your own, drill, scrimmage), if you miss the goal you chase the ball immediately. Not in a minute. Not if a teammate is there to fetch it. Your immediate physical reaction to any miss is to start running as though bad people are chasing you. We will be watching for this. If you don't chase your misses, you might as well wear a sign that says "Not buying in. Marching to my own drummer".
If there is a doctor, dentist, drivers ed, academic, musical, tae kwon do appointment that conflicts with tryouts or practice, keep the appointment.
