The JV1 squad overcame the rain and a determined Concord team, getting a game-winner from Pierce Hamlin at the death of the match to break a 3-3 tie and emerge with a 4-3 triumph. Coach Willie Johnson's crew is now 7-1 on the season.
Hanover had several early chances, and following a good save off his line by goalkeeper CJ Wheelan to thwart a Concord bid, the Marauders went on top 1-0. Neal Montibello started the play with a throw-in to Mitch Aspinwall, who crossed the ball to Pierce Hamlin, open at the far post to slot the ball home. Monday through the half, Concord tied the match when Jack Ross' clearance attempt on a corner kick spun into the net. Wheelan came off his line again to deny a Tide one on one, preventing them from taking the lead.
The Marauders went on top 2-1 ten minutes into the second half, with Eric Tysinger finishing off a nice buildup from Mitch Aspinwall and Zane Schiffman. Shortly after Aspinwall forced the Concord keeper to make a diving save, Hanover increased the lead to 3-1 when Jack Ross headed home a corner kick from Derek Lacy.
Concord refused to fold, and pulled a goal back on a counter attack, shortly after Wheelan had denied them with a diving save. As the clock ticked down, the Tide tied the match at 3-3 when their talented striker went all Isak and drilled the entire Marauder team. With overtime looming, however, Pierce Hamlin ripped home the game winner, sending the rain soaked fans home happy. Both of them.
